About This Opportunity

The Harriette Jenkins Awards are designed to encourage members of Graduate Women New Zealand (GWNZ) to undertake research. The awards are made in recognition of service to GWNZ whether at branch, national, or international level. The scholarship provides $5,000 NZD to support incidental expenses related to research activities. Funds may be spent on various research-related costs including travel, childcare, specific research expenses, or conference fees. The award honors Harriette Jenkins, who worked consistently for the advancement of women's training and education and was an active, dedicated member of NZFUW (now GWNZ). Harriette was Treasurer of the Nelson Branch from 1951-1962 and was made a Life Member. Following her attendance at IFUW meetings in Zurich and Paris, she became convinced of the need for closer and continuing communication among countries and peoples. The fund and award was established in her honor after she left a bequest to NZFUW.
