Harbhajan Rai Memorial Scholarship in Science

Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement enrolled in the third or fourth year of an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Science at the University of Alberta. Selection is based on academic standing, with preference given to students with indicated financial need and to students who are employed. This scholarship honors Harbhajan Rai, who arrived in Edmonton from India in the 1970s and was a devoted family man who recognized the importance of education and was intrigued by science. He spent his life working difficult blue-collar jobs to ensure his three children could attend university and maintained the belief that equal access for all was a necessity of a superior educational system. His children established this scholarship to offer support to the next generation in honor of his memory and beliefs.
