About This Opportunity

The Harold Powers World Travel Fund honors the polymathic scholar and distinguished AMS member, Harold Powers, whose publications ranged from music and language to medieval mode to Indian music to Puccini. The grant is given annually to one or more doctoral students at or PhD graduates of North American universities to conduct doctoral or post-doctoral musicological research in all fields of musical scholarship and throughout the world. The average award amount is typically between $500 and $2,500, though applicants may request up to $5,000. Preference will be given to applicants whose home institutions do not offer financial support for musicological research. Funds awarded in 2026 must be applied to travel and research undertaken between May 1, 2026 and April 30, 2027. No individual may receive a travel/research grant more than once in a three-year period.
