About this opportunity
The Harry S. Truman Book Award is presented biennially and generously endowed by Mary and John Hunkeler. Established in 1963, the award recognizes the best book published within a two-year period dealing primarily and substantially with some aspect of the history of the United States between April 12, 1945 and January 20, 1953, or with the life or career of Harry S. Truman. The award honors excellence in historical scholarship related to the Truman presidency and era. Books must be published within the designated two-year eligibility period. Currently, books published between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2025 are eligible for the 2026 award. The honor carries a $5,000 cash award and recognizes outstanding contributions to understanding this pivotal period in American history.
