About This Opportunity

The Harry W. MacLauchlan Entrepreneurship Program was created in November 2005 by Marjorie MacLauchlan and family to honour the memory of Harry W. MacLauchlan (1926-2002), who combined entrepreneurial initiative, work ethic, business judgment and people skills, with a deep commitment to his family, community and province. Originally established as the Harry W. MacLauchlan Scholarships in Entrepreneurial Leadership, the family's wish was to provide an opportunity to advance and encourage entrepreneurial students to the benefit of the students and the Prince Edward Island communities. In 2020, the MacLauchlan family, in consultation with UPEI faculty and officials, considered a new initiative to encourage and grow entrepreneurial students who could benefit greatly from their support. This program would encourage and support students to become entrepreneurial risk-takers. It is in this context that the family decided to redirect an existing endowment to support these students and their projects. The program is overseen and monitored by a group consisting of one or more representatives from entrepreneurial-related faculty members and the Vice President, Finance and Administration. There is a minimum of four members of the coaching group. The faculty representatives are selected and confirmed by the Deans of Science, Sustainable Design Engineering, and Business. Additionally, community leaders are sought to participate in the assessment process and to participate as mentors.
