About This Opportunity

On offer are a selection of philanthropic HDR scholarships in surgery, awarded to exceptional applicants demonstrating outstanding academic merit and research potential. These scholarships are open to new domestic applicants. The program includes three distinct scholarship opportunities: the Professor Philip Walker Surgery Research Scholarship (established in 2020 to support research in areas related to surgical disease), the Professor William Burnett Research Fellowships (established in 2004 to support PhD students in the discipline of surgery), and the Charles M. Lilley Scholarship (established in 2025, providing additional scholarship support of up to $35,000 per annum for outstanding applicants). All scholarships support Higher Degree by Research students undertaking research in surgery-related fields, with at least one member of the advisory team being a member of the Mayne Academy of Surgery within The University of Queensland Medical School.
