About This Opportunity
These awards are given to two undergraduate nursing students in their fourth year of study who are in good academic standing and have an interest in preventative medicine and diabetes education. The awards were created in loving memory of Heather L. Howatt, RN (1945-2012), who was born in Georgetown, Ontario, but called Prince Edward Island her home for 46 years. Heather graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing and was dedicated to preventative medicine, specifically in the area of diabetic education. She served the Prince Edward Island community for 25 years in both Summerside and Charlottetown as a patient-centric nurse who was committed to preventative healthcare. She and her husband, Erwin, have four daughters - Leslie, Alison, Susan and Megan. These four awards have been established in memory of Heather and the impact she made on her family and those fortunate to have her as part of their lives.
