About This Opportunity

The Helen F. Chavez Legacy Scholarship was established to help low-income first-generation students to pursue higher education in order to improve their lives and their families. Helen F. Chavez was a pioneer in the social justice movement and along with her husband they started what we know as the United Farm Workers Union. The union has helped thousands of families just like hers. In addition, the work her and Cesar started has led to many other organizations that have built thousands of units of affordable housing, created healthcare and pension plans, entertained thousands across the radio waves, and been a fighter for social justice and education. This scholarship is specifically designed for first-generation-in-college students who need gap funding to further their education and change their lives as well as their families' lives. It provides financial support to students who are either graduating high school seniors or current college students attending specific four-year colleges in San Francisco, or students enrolled in community college transfer programs. The scholarship supports students who demonstrate financial need and maintain strong academic standing with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
