About this opportunity
The Helen M. Woodruff Fellowship was made possible by a bequest from Helen M. Woodruff, who was herself the recipient of an AIA Fellowship in Mediaeval and Renaissance Archaeology in the 1920s, during which time she traveled to Rome and other locations in Europe. The fellowship is awarded every other year (odd years only) to help support a Rome Prize at the American Academy in Rome, and provides for pre- or post-doctoral studies of archaeology and classical studies. The fellowship amount is $9,000 and recipients must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States. At the conclusion of the fellowship tenure, recipients must submit a report to the Chair of the AIA Fellowships Committee and the President of the American Academy in Rome. The fellowship provides an opportunity for scholars to conduct research at the American Academy in Rome, utilizing its resources including the Arthur and Janet C. Ross Library and Fototeca, as well as access to archaeological sites and materials throughout Rome and Italy.
