About this opportunity
The Helmut W. Hampel Scholarship is intended to provide financial support for undergraduate or graduate students at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee who demonstrate a commitment to promoting and securing equal rights for members of the LGBTQIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, or allies) community. Eligible students must show demonstrated commitment through advocacy, volunteerism, or other community service to securing equal rights for members of the LGBTQIA community in activities inside or outside the UWM campus. Alternatively, students may demonstrate interest in pursuing a field of academic study promoting the creation and dissemination of knowledge about the LGBTQIA community, including but not limited to the LGBT Certificate program. Prior recipients may have their scholarships renewed provided they remain eligible. Applicants must meet specific GPA requirements: a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher for admitted first-year students, or a GPA of 3.0 or higher for current students.
