About this opportunity
The Henry Havelock MacFarlane Memorial Award is awarded to a deserving third- or fourth-year student in the Majors or Honours program in English at the University of Prince Edward Island. The award was established by the Estate of Dr. Constance Ida MacFarlane in memory of her father, Henry Havelock MacFarlane. Dr. Constance MacFarlane was a distinguished scientist who graduated from Prince of Wales College in 1924 and Dalhousie University, completing post-graduate studies on marine algae at the University of Liverpool, England. From 1949-70, she served as Director of the Seaweeds Division of the Nova Scotia Research Foundation and gained international recognition as a world authority on seaweed research. The award recognizes academic achievement in English studies and honors the legacy of the MacFarlane family's commitment to education and research.
