About This Opportunity

The Henry Lester Trust Limited is named after Henry Lester who spent most of his life in Shanghai and who died there in 1926. Having made his fortune in Shanghai, his estate is used to benefit the people of Shanghai through educational grants. The Trust provides grants primarily for the living costs of Chinese citizens in the final year of their postgraduate studies in the UK, particularly when their successful completion is being negatively affected by an unexpected lack of finance. Priority is given to those studying or conducting research in medicine, health-related topics, and architecture (including civic planning and construction management). The grants support students who demonstrate financial hardship and who intend to return to China to apply their knowledge and skills for the benefit of the Chinese people. In exceptional circumstances, the Trust may also provide funding for unexpected and essential expenses for course completion, including tuition fees outside the originally funded timescale.
