Hertz Fellowship

The Hertz Fellowship is a prestigious graduate fellowship program offered by the Fannie & John Hertz Foundation that supports the nation's most promising graduate students pursuing research-based doctoral degrees in applied physical and biological sciences, mathematics, and engineering. The fellowship provides up to five years of funding valued at up to $250,000, making it one of the most generous graduate fellowships in the United States. In addition to financial support, Fellows receive dedicated mentorship throughout their fellowship, career support, and access to a vibrant community of Fellows spanning generations who share achievements across diverse disciplines including climate science, national security, computational neuroscience, and astrodynamics. The application process involves multiple stages including an initial application submission, preselection review, and two rounds of interviews conducted between December and February. Applicants must submit their materials by the October 31 deadline, with references due by November 3. Finalists are notified in February, with final fellowship recipients announced in April and the public announcement in May.
