About this opportunity

The Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) Research Grants support innovative basic research into fundamental biological problems with emphasis on novel and interdisciplinary approaches that involve scientific exchanges across national and disciplinary boundaries. Research grants are provided for teams of scientists based in different countries who wish to combine their expertise in innovative approaches to questions that could not be answered by individual laboratories. Two types of grants are available: Research Grants - Early Career (for all team members within 5 years of obtaining an independent position and not more than 10 years from their first doctoral degree) and Research Grants - Program (for teams of independent researchers at any stage of their careers). Both provide three years of support for 2-4 member teams. The program particularly encourages participation of scientists from disciplines outside traditional life sciences such as biophysics, chemistry, computational biology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, nanoscience, or physics. Teams must be international, preferably intercontinental, and team members should not have collaborated before. The program inherently accepts high-risk, high-reward research that opens new approaches for understanding complex structures and regulatory networks of living organisms.
