Hinrichsen Foundation Project Grants

The Hinrichsen Foundation provides one-off project grants for the performance, commissioning, and recording of contemporary and experimental music in the UK. Grants generally range from £500 to £3,000 and are awarded through three annual rounds in September, December, and March. The Foundation prioritizes high-quality projects that deliver diverse programming, embrace artistic risks, and cultivate appreciation for less familiar and experimental music. Applications are accepted from individuals, organizations, and charities based in the United Kingdom. Projects must focus on contemporary music with confirmed performances, and applicants are expected to demonstrate financial feasibility with additional funding sources. The Foundation values thoughtful collaboration between composers, musicians, and project leads, with emphasis on fair payment for artists. The Foundation welcomes applications that take artistic risks, promote diversity, and involve cross-disciplinary collaboration. While priority is given to UK-based composers and activity, projects do not have to take place solely in the UK. Applications for research, composer competitions, or from undergraduates are not accepted. All funded projects should include clear plans for promotion and audience cultivation.
