About this opportunity
The H.M. Chadwick Fund provides studentships and grants to support study and research in specific historical and cultural subjects. The Committee of Managers may award up to ยฃ3,000 per studentship to cover fees and maintenance. Graduates or research students of any university in the United Kingdom or Ireland are eligible, with preference given to Cambridge University graduates or graduate students. Applications are also invited for grants including travel and subsistence for attendance at courses or conferences, or for any purpose which promotes study or research in the eligible subjects. The Fund supports research in the history, literature, thought, religion, sociology, archaeology, material culture, and art of Britain, Ireland, Scandinavia, Germany, the Low Countries and France before AD 1050; similar subjects related to Near East peoples before 1000 BC; and the same subjects in relation to modern indigenous peoples and their cultures. The award also includes general history or comparative study of past cultures, with specific exclusions for Western Europe post-AD 1050, Classical periods, and purely linguistic or physical anthropology studies. Recipients are required to submit brief reports on work undertaken in connection with their awards, and grants are paid upon submission of receipts.
