About this opportunity
The Hon. Dr. Lorne Bonnell Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a full-time student who is a Canadian citizen and entering the first year of a Master of Science program at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) or Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC). Candidates must be admitted to a full-time Master's program at UPEI within 12 months of qualifying for the Scholarship. The scholarship honors Dr. M. Lorne Bonnell, who was born in Hopefield, P.E.I. in 1923 and established a medical practice in Murray River in 1948. As a dedicated family doctor, he attended some 10,000 patients and delivered 3,000 babies, many as home deliveries. Dr. Bonnell also served in provincial politics and was re-elected five times as a member of the Legislative Assembly of P.E.I., holding several Cabinet portfolios. This scholarship recognizes his commitment to medical service and his contributions to the province.
