About this opportunity
The Honourable James M. Lee Memorial Scholarship at AVC is granted to a student entering the Atlantic Veterinary College DVM program who is normally resident in Prince Edward Island. This scholarship was established to honour the legacy of the Honourable James M. Lee, P.C., LLB, who was the 26th premier of Prince Edward Island from 1981 to 1986. One of Premier Lee's most notable achievements was the successful negotiation with the federal government to establish a school of veterinary medicine at the University of Prince Edward Island, known as the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC). In 2005, James received an Honorary Doctorate from UPEI for his determination to expand post-secondary education with the establishment of the AVC and his commitment to public service. James Lee was predeceased by his wife, Patsy, and survived by their three children, Laurie-Anne, Patti-Sue, and Jason and families. To honour his legacy and vision to advance the AVC as an academic institution for future generations, his family established an endowment in his name for an annual scholarship at the Atlantic Veterinary College at UPEI. The scholarship provides a minimum award of $1,000 to support students entering the DVM program.
