About this opportunity
The Hugh Last Fund and General Fund provide financial support for work related to Roman studies. The Hugh Last Fund was established from a legacy to assist the undertaking, completion, or publication of scholarly work that relates to the general purposes of the Roman Society. The Fund has an annual income of around £5,000. The General Fund has a budget of £3,000. Both funds exclude archaeological excavations, surveys, and research on Roman Britain and Western European provincial archaeology, as well as travel, hotel, conference, and living expenses for all fields. Applications are particularly welcome for events promoting public involvement in Roman studies, small research costs for PhD and junior researchers where institutional funding is unavailable, and authors' costs in preparing research results for publication. Awards are made annually with decisions in February following a January 31 deadline.
