About this opportunity

Huskie Service Scholars (HSS) is a service-learning program in which eligible freshmen and first-semester transfer students make a difference on campus and in the surrounding community through weekly service activities. Students will be assigned a supportive peer network for a particular campus partner. Students will meet during monthly cohort meetings geared towards professional development, service reflection, and resources available on campus. Only students who are new to NIU are eligible for this program (current NIU students will not be considered). The program requires completion of a minimum of 100 on-site service hours, commitment of 3-4 service hours per week, attendance at biweekly cohort meetings, full-time enrollment (12 credit hours) for both semesters, and maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Upon successful completion of the program, students receive a $1,200 tuition waiver distributed equally for fall and spring semesters.
