About this opportunity
The Ian Gordon Master's Scholarship was established in 2021 using funding from the Ian Gordon Trust Fund to support study in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics and the English Language at Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington. The scholarship is intended to support students undertaking a Master's degree by coursework in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics or TESOL. At least one scholarship will normally be targeted towards teachers returning to study.
The Fund was established in 2003 by the late Emeritus Professor Ian Gordon, who made a distinguished contribution to the study of English language and literature. He was instrumental in establishing the English Language Institute in 1961 and supported the introduction of linguistics teaching at Victoria University of Wellington from 1970.
Applicants are assessed on the basis of academic merit, with relevant prior experience also taken into account. Priority is given to applicants who do not hold any other scholarships or equivalent funding for this course of study. The scholarship provides $10,000 paid as a stipend in two installments over one year.
Recipients are expected to write a letter of thanks on receipt of the scholarship and provide a report after completing their Master's degree. The scholarship can only be awarded once to any applicant.
