About this opportunity

The International Growth Centre (IGC) welcomes high-quality research proposals on sustainable and inclusive economic growth in low- and middle-income countries. The IGC is interested in projects that can achieve both academic and policy impact through one of four themes: Firms, trade and productivity; State effectiveness; Cities; Energy and environment. The research aims to advance knowledge on how to balance economic growth with environmental sustainability, and provide practical insights for policymakers to design effective policies and interventions. The IGC offers two types of awards: full research grants (capped at GBP 125,000 with an average of GBP 60,000) for fully-developed research projects, and small research grants (up to GBP 30,000 for pilot studies or GBP 20,000 for exploratory research) for preliminary research and pilot studies. Researchers must conduct their research in low- and middle-income countries, with preference given to IGC's 10 partner countries. The IGC prioritizes proposals that demonstrate empirical rigour, relevance to inclusive growth policy, value for money, and engagement with local institutions.
