About this opportunity

This funding provides up to $18,000 to support the development of individual Indigenous artists, arts administrators, or an ensemble of artists in Alberta by providing funding for a specific cultural or artistic project. The program supports artistic and cultural production, marketing, research, and training and career development activities. Projects should be confined to a distinct phase of work and may include development, creation, and production of artistic works, promotion and audience development, research activities including gathering natural materials, or professional development through workshops, master classes, mentorship programs, and courses of study. The Alberta Foundation for the Arts celebrates diversity and is committed to creating equitable, inclusive, and accessible programs for all, free of barriers and discrimination, with particular encouragement for applicants from Indigenous peoples, racialized communities, women, people with disabilities, and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Review process

Expert panel assesses merit of applications based on project impact, artistic merit, budget appropriateness, applicant ability, and connection to Indigenous culture. Panel recommendations reviewed by AFA board with final decisions.
