About This Opportunity
The International Year of Older Persons Award (IYOP) is awarded to a student who has demonstrated an interest in gerontology. Examples of courses that may be used in the evaluation include PSYCH 3030, NURS 1010, 1020 or 3240, or other relevant courses completed through program majors or fields as outlined in the student's personal statement. In recognition of the United Nations declaration of 1999 as the International Year of Older Persons, the Province of Prince Edward Island invited a group of citizens to form the International Year of Older Persons Committee. This Committee launched a fundraising campaign to establish a post-graduate award for studies in gerontology at the University of Prince Edward Island. Their goal is to educate people in the field of gerontology and to leave a permanent legacy of IYOP Year to the people of Prince Edward Island.
