About this opportunity
The Irene D. Wyand Memorial Bursaries are awarded to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Education program at the Faculty of Education who attended a PEI High School and are completing an international teaching placement within the same academic year. These bursaries were established through the estate of Irene Dorothy Wyand, who was born in Cavendish, PEI and became a teacher and principal. Irene authored three books, was a poet and an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Irene attended Prince of Wales College (Class of 1933) in Charlottetown and later went to Ontario, where she received a BA degree specializing in history, French and music. In addition to her vocation as an educator, she served her church as a music director, organist and teacher. Irene also served as a missionary to Belgium and France from 1957-1959. She passed away in January 2007 at the age of 98. The bursaries support students pursuing international teaching experiences.
