About this opportunity
The J. Jarvis Stewart Memorial Award is awarded to a well-rounded fourth-year graduating Religious Studies Major who has completed a minimum two core courses and one elective in the Christian Studies program at the University of Prince Edward Island. Preference will be given to a student who plans to pursue a post-graduate program in Christian Studies (e.g., Ministry, Divinity, Theological Studies, Religious Education, or Pastoral Counselling). The award honors J. Jarvis Stewart, who was born in Dunstaffnage, PEI in 1881 and became a successful businessman despite having little formal education. He worked hard all his life beginning in his early teens, supporting his widowed mother from age 15. Frugal on his own behalf, JJ was a generous and kind man who wanted to honor his parents and give a helping hand to the children of common people with whom he associated throughout his life. Most importantly, he wanted to do something to benefit his province, Prince Edward Island. The award reflects his commitment to supporting students with limited resources who demonstrate academic excellence and dedication to Christian Studies.
