About This Opportunity

The J. Jarvis Stewart Memorial Prize is awarded to a returning student in good academic standing with a minimum average of 75% in all Christian Studies courses previously taken. The award recognizes academic achievement in Religious Studies at the University of Prince Edward Island. This memorial prize was established in honor of J. Jarvis Stewart, who was born in Dunstaffnage, PEI in 1881. Despite having little formal education and working hard from his early teens after his father's death, Jarvis became a successful businessman. He was frugal on his own behalf but generous and kind to others. In establishing this Memorial Fund, he wanted to honor his parents and provide assistance to the children of common people with whom he associated throughout his life. Most importantly, he wanted to contribute something beneficial to his province, Prince Edward Island.
