About this opportunity
The James "Jim" E. L. Pratt Memorial Scholarship is granted to a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in a bachelor degree program in the Faculty of Science at UPEI who will study abroad as part of their UPEI education. Study abroad opportunities must be officially sanctioned by the university and be for academic credit towards a student's current degree. This scholarship honors James (Jim) Pratt, a man who was a strong believer in lifelong education and practical learning, despite never completing postsecondary education himself. He was an avid reader and believed strongly that students should expand their knowledge of the world through practical experiences. The scholarship was established by his sister Debbie MacLellan to honor his memory and his belief in the value of international educational experiences. Jim Pratt was known for his warm, gentle nature, his love of family, his intellectual curiosity, and his determination to live life to the fullest despite serious heart disease. He passed away at age 59 due to complications after heart transplant surgery, but his legacy lives on through this scholarship that enables science students to pursue study abroad opportunities.
