About this opportunity
The James L. Allen Scholarship Fund was established by James L. Allen, a dedicated community leader who served with the Columbus Urban League (1938–1954) and later with the UNCF (1960–1995), raising millions to support higher education for African-American students. He worked for many years in public accounting and real estate, and was an active member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church and various other organizations. His contributions to the Columbus community and beyond have earned him numerous awards for his professional and community service.
This scholarship supports undergraduate students who are graduates of Columbus City Schools and reside or have previously resided on the east side of Columbus. The fund provides financial assistance to students who have achieved at least sophomore status and maintain strong academic performance. The scholarship honors James L. Allen's legacy of supporting educational opportunities for students in the Columbus community.
Candidates must maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average and attend on a full-time basis at an institution in the United States. The scholarship provides a minimum award of $1,000 to help students continue their undergraduate education.
