About this opportunity
The James Quirk Memorial Prize in Sports Economics is an annual award presented at University College Cork to honor the memory and contributions of Professor James Patrick Quirk, a Caltech Professor of Economics who was widely regarded in the field of sports economics. Prof Quirk was one of the first ever 'sports economists' and made his seminal contributions to the subject as early as the 1970s, which continued for the next 40 years.
The prize is supported by the Quirk estate and recognizes academic excellence in the Economics of Sport. It is awarded to the student with the best academic performance in the module EC3219 – The Economics of Sport at University College Cork.
Prof Quirk was of Irish descent, and this award serves to remember his lifetime of contributions to the field of sports economics. The prize is automatically awarded to eligible students who meet the criteria, with no separate application required beyond enrollment and participation in the specified course.
