About this opportunity

The James R. and Joanne K. Burgoon Endowment scholarship was established through a bequest from the estate of James R. Burgoon, a lifelong resident of Westerville, Ohio. James graduated from Westerville High School in 1948, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and received a degree from Franklin University in 1959. He worked at Franklin University for over 30 years, becoming Vice President of Finance. He was active in Masonry and at the First Presbyterian Church of Westerville. This scholarship honors his and his wife Joanne's commitment to education and community service. The scholarship supports students pursuing education in accounting or law at educational institutions in the United States. Preference is given to residents of Westerville, Ohio, and to candidates who are members of the Masonic Fraternity or the Eastern Star. The minimum award amount is $500. Applicants must demonstrate their commitment to these fields of study and meet the eligibility criteria. The scholarship is managed through The Columbus Foundation's Universal Application system, providing support to students who share James and Joanne Burgoon's values of education, service, and community involvement.
