About This Opportunity

The James S Ashton Memorial Scholarship is a $5,000 undergraduate scholarship designed to encourage and assist outstanding undergraduate students in agricultural science at the University of Sydney. Established in 1995 by donations through the initiative of Professor Fred and Claire Hilmer with the assistance of Susan and James W Ashton in memory of their son James S Ashton (Bachelor of Science in Agriculture 1993), this scholarship recognizes academic excellence in the field. Eligible students must have completed their first year of either the Bachelor of Agricultural Science or Bachelor of Agricultural Science Honours and be progressing into their second year full-time. The scholarship is awarded based on academic merit, determined by the recipient's Weighted Average Mark (WAM) for subjects completed in their current degree. No application is required, as eligible candidates are considered automatically, with successful recipients notified via email by the end of March. The scholarship is valued at $5,000, paid in two equal installments after the census date of each semester, and is tenable for one year only. Recipients must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 65 each semester to continue receiving the scholarship. Deferral is not permitted without prior permission, and the scholarship is not transferable to another university school, faculty, or institution. The scholarship will be terminated if the recipient withdraws from an eligible course, transfers to an ineligible stream of study, commences part-time study without approval, does not maintain satisfactory academic performance, or accepts an alternative scholarship valued at $6,000 per annum or more for the same purpose. This scholarship provides valuable financial support to high-achieving students pursuing careers in agricultural science.
