About this opportunity
The Jane Coffin Childs Memorial Fund for Medical Research provides three-year postdoctoral fellowships to support fundamental biomedical research that advances understanding of the causes, treatments, and cures for human disease. Originally established in 1937 to honor Jane Coffin Childs and support cancer research, the Fund's mission has broadened to encompass all basic research related to human health.
The Fund awards between 25 and 30 new three-year fellowships annually through a highly competitive selection process overseen by a distinguished Board of Scientific Advisors, which has included 17 Nobel Prize recipients. Fellows receive salary support with stipend levels of $72,000 in Year 1, $74,000 in Year 2, and $76,000 in Year 3 (2026 rates), plus additional funding for research costs, travel, relocation, and supplemental support for fellows with dependents.
Over 1,800 fellows have been supported since the Fund's inception, conducting research in laboratories across North America, Europe, Japan, and Australia. The Fund is committed to mentoring scientists from all backgrounds and increasing inclusivity in the biomedical research workforce. Fellows participate in an annual symposium featuring poster sessions, scientific presentations, and career development programming to enhance networking and communication skills.
