About This Opportunity

The City of Tampa Black History Committee, Inc. (COTBHC) awards a non-renewable scholarship in honor of Tampa's first African American City Clerk and first COTBHC President, the late Janett S. Martin. This scholarship is designed to support graduating African American high school seniors in Hillsborough County School District who have demonstrated academic achievement and community service commitment. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA (unweighted) and have performed community service within their community via school, church, or through a social/civic organization. The scholarship requires applicants to complete a 500+ word essay on a female veteran or active-duty service member who inspires them, sharing her story and explaining how her achievements and resilience have motivated the applicant to pursue their own dreams. Recipients must provide proof of at least 100 completed community service hours.
