About this opportunity
The Janssen Scholarship is offered by Janssen Sciences Ireland to one 2nd Year engineering student at University College Cork (UCC). The scholarship provides a €2,500 bursary for each of the student's 2nd, 3rd, and Final years in the programme, totaling €7,500 over three years. Janssen is one of the world's leading research-based pharmaceutical organisations and is part of the Johnson & Johnson Group of companies. Janssen has been manufacturing bulk active pharmaceutical ingredients in Cork since 1981, and Janssen Biologics established its operation in Ringaskiddy in 2005.
The scholarship specifically targets students in the School of Engineering at UCC. In addition to the financial award, the scholarship may include opportunities for work placement (no obligation) and potential graduate employment (no obligation) with Janssen Sciences Ireland. This provides students with valuable industry connections and potential career pathways in the pharmaceutical sector.
Applications are invited from 2nd year engineering students, and shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by staff from Process & Chemical Engineering at UCC and from Janssen Sciences Ireland. The selection process is comprehensive, with scoring based on 20 marks for Leaving Certificate results, 20 marks for 1st year UCC results, and 60 marks for the interview. The interview assessment focuses on enthusiasm (15 marks), leadership potential (15 marks), innovation (15 marks), and interpersonal skills (15 marks).
This scholarship represents a partnership between UCC's School of Engineering and one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies, providing students with both financial support and valuable industry engagement opportunities throughout their undergraduate engineering studies.
