Jean Elizabeth (McKenna) Balsom Memorial Award

The Jean Elizabeth (McKenna) Balsom Memorial Award is granted to a first-year nursing student who graduated from a high school located in Atlantic Canada and is in financial need. Preference will be given to a student who has at least one parent in the Canadian Armed Forces. Jean Elizabeth Balsom of Summerside, PEI (1929-2023) was a compassionate and accomplished nurse educated at Prince County Hospital in Prince Edward Island. She was known for her kindness and generosity, always ready to volunteer and entertain to help in her communities. This award was created by her son, Kendall, and grandson, Adrian, to continue the legacy of Jean's compassionate nursing career and her dedication to community service. The award recognizes students pursuing nursing education who demonstrate financial need and share the values of service and compassion that characterized Jean's life and career.
