About this opportunity
Awarded to a full-time student entering the Bachelor of Education program who, in the opinion of the faculty, shows exceptional promise and ability for a career in teaching, has demonstrated academic achievement in the last two years of their undergraduate degree, and who is not already receiving another UPEI scholarship of $1,000 or more that year. These scholarships have been established by the Lockerby family in memory of their parents, Lloyd and Jean. Lloyd Lockerby was a distinguished alumnus who graduated from Prince of Wales College in 1933 and MacDonald College in 1938, receiving the Governor General's medal for top standing. He made significant contributions to agriculture in Prince Edward Island and served on numerous boards and associations. Jean Lockerby was a strong advocate of education, having graduated from Prince of Wales College in 1930 with a first class teacher's license and taught in several Island schools. The scholarship honors Lloyd's deep commitment to community service and the agricultural community, and Jean's desire to encourage and support students pursuing post-secondary education.
