About this opportunity
Granted on an annual basis to a student graduating from the DVM program at the Atlantic Veterinary College who has a demonstrated interest in large animal practice and dairy herd health and has shown extraordinary care and compassion for large animals. This award is named after a cow nicknamed Peggy who suffered a broken leg during a difficult birth and went on to become a foundational member of the Jewell family's dairy herd. The Jewell family has supported AVC and its students for decades, and this endowed award recognizes students who embody the same dedication to animal care that saved Peggy's life. Kevin and Cheryl Jewell are known for their incredible care and treatment of animals on their dairy farm and have welcomed fourth year vet students to their farm as a learning hub. The award reflects their commitment to investing in future veterinarians who share their passion for large animal welfare and dairy herd health.
