About this opportunity
This scholarship was established in 2022 by the Victoria University of Wellington Foundation through a bequest from the Estate of James Dalton Milburn, QSM. It recognizes the friendship and pleasurable times enjoyed during Jim (1941-1950) and Barbara's (1948-1951) student days at Victoria University. The scholarship honors the vibrant post-war student life that centered on lecture rooms, sports, debating society, and student politics. Both Jim and Barbara were active participants - Barbara earned blues in tennis and indoor basketball, while Jim engaged in debating society, won the Plunket Medal and Union Prize, and served on the Student Executive. They credit the 'College' with inspiring a lifetime of teaching and publishing. The scholarship is awarded to students nearing completion of their first year who are continuing to second year at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, specifically those studying English. Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or Permanent Residents and demonstrate financial hardship.
