About this opportunity
The John and Elsie Cuthbertson Memorial Music Bursary is awarded annually to a full-time student enrolled in the Music Program at the University of Prince Edward Island. The recipient must demonstrate financial need, with preference given to a student of voice who is a Canadian citizen. This scholarship was established by the late John Cuthbertson of East Sussex, England, and husband of the late Elsie Cuthbertson. The Cuthbertsons lived on Prince Edward Island from 1964 until 1981 when Mrs. Cuthbertson died. Elsie Cuthbertson was well-known in Island music circles as a soprano soloist who performed in churches and concerts across the Island. She was a member of West Covehead United Church and sang in the choir there. The bursary continues her musical legacy by supporting music students. John Cuthbertson died in January 2005, and his second wife, Maureen, is delighted to hear from the students who receive this bursary through John's legacy at UPEI.
