About This Opportunity

The John and Peggy Kalahar Memorial Softball Scholarship was created to honor the legacy of John and Peggy Kalahar and the growth of girls and women's softball in Wenatchee. John Kalahar was a Sociology professor at Wenatchee Valley College who secured funding to begin a women's fastpitch team at WVC in the mid-1980s and became the first coach for the Lady Knights Fastpitch Softball Team. He was passionate about baseball and fastpitch softball throughout his life, playing and coaching for three decades. Peggy supported his dreams wholeheartedly. John passed away in 2015, and Peggy passed away in February 2025. This scholarship was established to continue their legacy and support softball players in their educational pursuits. The scholarship helps offset the expense of post-secondary education and eases the financial pressure of continuing to play the sport they love. The scholarship is available annually to graduating seniors from Wenatchee High School or Westside High School who played softball during high school and are planning to attend Wenatchee Valley College. The application opens January 1st with a deadline of March 1st each year.
