About this opportunity
A scholarship, valued at up to $2,000, is awarded annually to an outstanding undergraduate student entering first year of Electrical Engineering. This fund was established by friends of John Hamel, and by Otman Basir, to honour their late friend and colleague, John Hamel. Hamel achieved his master's and PhD degrees from Waterloo and went to teach at schools in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. In 2000 he returned to Waterloo where he was a dedicated researcher and teacher in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering until his death in 2009. The scholarship recognizes outstanding academic performance and does not require a separate application beyond the standard admission materials.
