About this opportunity
The John M. and Bertha A. Stone Scholarship Fund was established in 1999 in memory of Cardington businessman John M. Stone, by his wife Bertha A. Stone and daughter Ella J. Wertz. The scholarship honors Mr. Stone's belief that many students are overlooked for scholarships when they do not have an 'A' average, even though they show consistency in schoolwork and reflect good community citizenship. This annual scholarship supports graduating seniors from Cardington-Lincoln High School in Ohio who are pursuing a college education. Mr. Stone, a pharmacist and community leader, inspired numerous high school students through his example of hard work and community involvement during his many years operating Stone's Drug Store in Cardington from 1936 to 1984. The scholarship specifically targets students in the top 15% but not the top 5% of their class, recognizing academic achievement combined with consistent performance and good citizenship.
