About this opportunity
This scholarship is awarded annually to a student entering the second, third, or fourth year of the BMus or BMus (Honors) program at the University of Alberta. The award recognizes superior academic achievement and exceptional accomplishment in the performance of contemporary music. For the purpose of this scholarship, contemporary music is defined as music composed no more than thirty years before the year in which the award is made. The scholarship was endowed by relatives, family and friends of the late John Newman, a member of the Class of 1983, who was a gifted clarinetist with a special interest in the performance of contemporary music.
