About this opportunity
The Kahui Legal Excellence Scholarship is funded by Kahui Legal and Taihonoa for the purpose of encouraging and financially supporting the successful pursuit of tertiary qualifications and leadership development for Kahui Legal. This scholarship is offered to offset the costs of fees or other course-related costs for a student who has proven academic excellence in their first year of law studies at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington.
Applicants must whakapapa as Māori and be enrolled as full-time students at Victoria University of Wellington. Preference will be given to students who are enrolled in te reo Māori, tikanga Māori or papers that are inclusive of a mātauranga Māori world view. The scholarship is valued at $5,000 and will be paid in one installment as a contribution to fees or other course-related costs.
Successful students are eligible to reapply each year, and scholarship recipients are strongly encouraged to contribute positively to the University marae by volunteering some time to support the role and function of supporting the Māori community at Te Herenga Waka. Recipients are also expected to provide a commitment to 'give back' to Kahui Legal in the future.
