About this opportunity
The Kai Mortensen Scholarship honors the legacy of a visionary entrepreneur who made a significant impact on Calgary's business landscape. After emigrating from Denmark to Canada in 1957, Kai Mortensen founded Interiors by Kai Mortensen Ltd., a premier lifestyle store known for its unique designs and craftsmanship. For over 45 years, Kai's passion for creativity and excellence transformed homes and offices across Calgary. Beyond his business success, he was a dedicated community leader, co-founding the Danish Businessmen Association and contributing to the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. His service as Honorary Danish Consul, appointed by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, and his knighthood with the Knight of the Dannebrog reflect his commitment to both his heritage and his community.
This scholarship is offered annually to a continuing undergraduate student enrolled in 3rd or 4th year at the Haskayne School of Business in the Bachelor of Commerce program. The award recognizes academic merit and supports students pursuing excellence in business education at the University of Calgary.
