About this opportunity
The Karen M. Plotkin Nursing Scholarship provides financial support for undergraduate students enrolled in the Elaine Marieb College of Nursing at UMass Amherst who have demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid. This scholarship was established by Mr. John L. Plotkin in beloved memory of his wife, Dr. Karen M. Plotkin.
Dr. Karen M. Plotkin began her nursing career in the emergency room at Leominster Hospital and went on to work as a community visiting nurse. She earned both her Masters and PhD degrees from UMass Amherst and started her teaching career at UMass in 1993. Karen was passionate about being both a nurse and an educator, and her students consistently expressed gratitude for her dedication, inspiration, support, kindness and understanding.
This scholarship honors Dr. Plotkin's legacy of excellence in nursing education and her commitment to supporting students pursuing nursing careers. Eligible students are automatically considered for the scholarship upon completing the General Application through the UMass Amherst scholarship portal.
