About this opportunity
Awarded annually to a returning full-time student who is the son or daughter of a single parent. This bursary is established at the University of Prince Edward Island by E. Albert, Rowe, Dip.Eng.'78, in memory of his mother, Kay. This award is in memory of Kathleen Rowe (nee Kelly), an alumna of Notre Dame Academy and Prince of Wales College, one of UPEI's predecessor institutions. She was widowed at a young age with five children to raise ranging in age from 5 to 16 years. Kay returned to the workforce after 20 years as a stay at home mother, eventually retiring from P.E.I. Hospital & Health Services Commission after seeing all five children educated at St. Dunstan's University, another of UPEI's predecessor institutions, and UPEI. This award is in recognition of the similar financial struggles single parents face in educating their children.
