About this opportunity
The Kentucky Historical Society offers short-term research fellowships ranging from one to four weeks to promote scholarship on any facet of Kentucky's history. These fellowships are designed to help facilitate research using KHS's rich archival holdings, which researchers have used to explore topics ranging from frontier land distribution and law to Civil War medicine, river-borne commerce in the 19th century, and Kentucky's nuclear energy industry. The fellowships are offered in the spring and provide financial support for researchers to visit and conduct work at the Martin F. Schmidt Research Library and explore the society's extensive collections. Past fellows have conducted research on diverse topics including Civil War hospitals, chemical biography, slave resistance, and Black politics in Kentucky and beyond.
