About This Opportunity

The L. Joyce Taylor Student Teaching Scholarship supports full-time Eastern Illinois University students pursuing teacher certification who are preparing for student teaching. This award has been established to offset the cost of student teaching expenses in order to overcome the financial barriers that exist on the way to becoming an excellent educator. Recipients must be in good academic standing, have completed all requirements to become eligible to student teach, and must be approved to student teach within the next 12 months after the award date. Financial need is a consideration. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to teaching underserved populations and submit a one-page essay outlining future educational and career plans, addressing how they have overcome adversity, obstacles, or barriers in their life, and how they have experienced the impact of teaching in underserved populations. Students may not be eligible to receive the award a second time. The award is open for applications in both the fall and spring semester to disburse the following semester of which it was announced.
